HOW TO BECOME AN RA IN MY LAB

  1. Interview with me.
  2. Figure out if you're doing Psych 196A (Psychology Majors), Psych 196B (CogSci Majors), Psych 199 (Independent Study), or an SRP. Consider PROPS.
  3. Email to me a spreadsheet (or similarly-well-organized document) that identifies the hours during the week that you are unavailable. Based on that information, I will create the weekly schedule for running participants.
  4. Go to Contract Courses at MyUCLA.
  5. Complete a contract for the course. The description is basically the description of my research posting, modified to address the particular project you'll be working on (if applicable).
  6. Bring the contract to 1285 Middle Franz (Dr. Robert Bjork's office). His assistant, Deanna Evans, will stamp his signature on your contract. Make sure she stamps the signature under the "Faculty Mentor Signature and Date" and NOT the "Faculty Mentor's Department Chair Signature and Date." She's very good, so you needn't worry.
  7. Turn your contract into the Psych Advising Office at 1531 Franz Tower. Alternatively, Deanna will turn it in. Either way, by the end of Week 1, you should be enrolled.
  8. Go with me to get a key to the lab (6437A) from the main office (5$ deposit required).
  9. Get certified to run human subjects by clicking here.
  10. Read up on the basic principles we study in the lab (found here).
