HOW TO USE THE LIFESCIENCES VPN TO ACCESS LAB FILES
UCLA's virtual private network (VPN) software allows your computer to be remotely connected to the internet through the UCLA campus network. When you're connected to a network, you gain the privileges of that network's users. If you're connected to the UCLA network, you gain the privileges of on-campus computer users; it's as if you're on campus. As a result, you can print to the lab printer and interact with files on bLab.
- Download (here) the LifeSciences VPN software.
- Install the software on your computer.
- Log in using your BOL login and password.
- Use your computer as if you were in Franz Tower.
To connect to bLab
- PC:
- Open an Explorer window (i.e., browse your computer's file system by clicking on My Computer or any folder; not INTERNET Explorer)
- Tools
- Map Network Drive...
- Set the "Drive" to "L:" from the drive menu -- or any other letter you like. I use L because it reminds me of Lab, but it's arbitrary.
- Set the "Folder" to "\\blab.psych.ucla.edu\bLab\" by typing it -- or copying and pasting from here. How handy!
- Your login is [your computer name]\blab .
- Your password is the lab password (not your BOL password).
- Make sure that "Reconnect at logon" is checked
- Finish
- MAC:
- Buy a PC
- Follow the above steps
